What is the best whey protein shake to supplement my workout and diet?
This is a question that many people find confusing and frustrating.
I have spent years trying to find the answer to the underlying question: What is the best whey protein shake?! And I will tell you that finding this answer is honestly a lot like dating.
- You find some winners!
- You find losers!
- You even find some that make you throw up in your mouth a little!
And after years of searching for protein shakes, here are my top 5 picks of the best whey protein shakes and where to get the best deals.
My top 5 Best Whey Protein Shakes
1 Dymatize Elite Whey Protein – 5 Stars
If you have read my Dymatize Elite Whey Protein Review, you will find that it is by far my favorite. When it comes to taste, price, and performance Dymatize is by far my top pick. It is low on sugar, tastes awesome, and has no additional dairy added.
2 Gold Standard Whey Protein – 4 Stars
Gold Standard is just what it sounds like….a standard whey protein. If you are unsure of what to get you can pick this one up for a good price and it is the main product at GNC. If you go there, make sure you hit it up on a Tuesday other wise you may pay more.
Muscle Pharm is the new brand of Arnold Schwarzenegger that recently hit the market. I have tried it and think it is ok. For me it has a bit too much sugar, but if you are ok with that give it a try. It is available at CostCo for cheap, but the only problem there is that your flavor selection is limited. Last time I checked the flavor they had was something like Chocolate Toffee. Ugh, not something I want to drink for the next month or so!
If you are looking for an ok choice you might like Syntha 6. I picked some up once since it was on sale and I can say it was not the worst whey protein shake I’ve ever had. If price is on your mind, you might find this one on sale. It has a great performance factor to match its throw up factor. Always think about that when you check out the sale rack!
Isopure is not a blend protein like all of the others on this list. It is a pure protein, with close to zero carbs and tastes a little bit worse than your toothpaste. However, if you are in the market for an Whey Isolate, then this is by far the best choice. Isolates work best for athletes and bodybuilders and are not designed for someone looking for a simple protein supplement shake. I put it on this list because I find that people buy this product not know what it is or how that got it.
Because it is so pure, it costs twice as much as a protein blend and usually ends up in my clients hands because it was on sale.
Here is the main difference:
Whey protein is a fast-absorbing source of protein to support lean muscle! Great for anytime of the day – especially post-workout!
Whey Protein Blends like 1-4
Whey Protein Blends combines multiple source of protein to support lean muscle! Great for anytime of the day – especially post-workout!
Whey Protein Isolates like no. 5
Whey Isolate is a low fat, low carb, fast-absorbing source of protein.* Great as a post-workout to help support muscle and promote health.
The Best Place to Shop for Whey Protein Shakes
You can get some deals at Costco now and then but you really are limited on products and flavor. Plus if you are new to supplements, finding a 2 lb tub in your favorite flavor won’t be available at your local mega store.
I have personally found the best deals at my favorite online supplement store and they always have free shipping and discounts!
