I absolutely hate the thought of climbing up on a treadmill for 45 minutes to get my “cardio” in! But sometimes it is just inevitable. It has been said that getting 10,000 steps a day can lead to optimal health. And why is 10,000 the magic number?
Well, I can tell you that sitting at a desk all day with no breaks or little movement does the body no good. We all need activity! After all, a body in motion stays in motion…right?
If you are using a step tracker and trying to get to your daily 10k step mark, hopping up on the treadmill for 45 minutes will defiantly put a dent in your goal. To hit my goal on the treadmill, I have started binge watching a new show on Netflix! I find that it takes my mind off the exercise clock, and my body into a state of relaxation (minus the exercise).
What Are HIIT Workouts: A Cure of the Cardio Boredom
Getting your Cardio in is the gym lingo for your Cardiovascular workouts. To put it into perspective, those are the workouts that make you feel like a lab rat on the wheel of insanity! When you are getting your ‘cardio’ in, you are working your heart muscle as an aerobic exercise.
A lot of people hate getting their cardio in even though it has incredible benefits like:
- Weight Loss
- Heart Health
- Mental Health
But thanks to some smart trainers out there, HIIT training has become the cure for the Cardio Insanity! HIIT Training or High Intensity Interval Training, really is awesome. You simply take your continuous from the treadmill, shorten the time, add some intensity, and change the workouts.
Here are some HIIT Workout Examples for your cardio machines:
- Elyptical: 3 Minutes
- Bike: 3 Minutes
- Treadmill: 3 Minutes
Do 3 rounds of each for 27 minutes plus a 5 minute cool down. The first round is a warm up, the second, round you increase the intensity 25-50%, and the third round you go all out!
It will be so intense you will forget about the time, and all you have to do is get through each 3 minute round!
And this is the simplest of a HIIT training workout!
What are HIIT Workouts and are they for me?
That machine HIIT Program is great and will help to break up your treadmill hell and change up your routine. However, if you really want to challenge yourself and watch the weight just fall off, try a body weight HIIT Program.
A few years back after a few surgeries I really need to lose weight. So I took the challenge and started one of the hardest HIIT training programs that you can do at home. That combined with eliminating dairy from my diet, I lost 40lbs in 3 months! And my love for HIIT began….

- Machine Circuit Programs
- Bodweight HIIT
- Sprint Intervals
The HIIT breakdown is simple: Small bursts of High Intensity exercise, followed by low intensity moderate exercise (active rest), mixed together in an interval or circuit format.

If you are trying to lose weight fast, HIIT training is a great way to burn fat. The upside is that it turns your body into a fat burning machine. The downside is that it is hard and not sustainable for the long term. In my experience, I lost some unwanted pounds from surgery and the holidays with my diet change and HIIT training.
