5 Paleo Diet Tips For Beginners
1 Food Prep Is A Must
When you go out to eat, there will most likely not be a Paleo menu even if you ask for it! And to be honest, if the you are going on the Palo diet because the cave man did it that way, I’m sure they weren’t eating at Chilis!
The great part about the Paleo Diet Plan is that you don’t have to count calories! But preparing your food before you go out the door will be critical to your success. And I am not talking about having some broccoli on hand for your snacks, I’m talk full meal prep for your weekly routine. Whether you are sitting at a desk counting the minutes till your next meal, or working hard from the 9 to 5, a pre-planned Paleo meal will ensure your success. Personally, I follow my Paleo Meal Plans and cook them on Sundays. During football season I am done cooking by the time the halftime show is coming to a close. It really isn’t that difficult if you take the time to do it right!
Tip: Get a Paleo CookBook to help you plan your meals with variety and flavor!
2 Add Healthy Fats For Energy
The first time I started the Paleo Diet Plan I failed miserably. Mostly because, I was cutting out grains and pasta that I had loved for so long. And those carbs were my main source of energy. However, on the Paleo Diet your new main source of energy is Fats. And I’m not talking Pizza! I’m talking about Avocados, Olive Oil, Nuts, Seeds, and other healthy fats.
Tip: Keep a stash of cashews, almonds, or take an avocado with your for emergencies!
3 Learn To Cook
The good news is that the Paleo Diet only has a few ingredients: Meat, Fruits, Veggies, and Fats. The bad news is that if you don’t know your way around the kitchen, your meals will get bland very quickly!
Tip: Have someone show you the basics of your kitchen to help you prep your meals!
4 Know What You Need
If you do go out to eat you must know what you need. Most likely there won’t be a Palo Chef in the kitchen, so you will need to know your basics. When I go out, I am usually aware of my calorie count vs activity level for the day. If I am tired and sluggish I know I need to eat, but I also know that I need some fat for a little boost in energy!
Tips: Learn how to order based on the Paleo Basics: Meat, Fats, Fruits, Veggies, Nuts, and Seeds!
5 Don’t Let Spices Scare You
I’m not talkin Scary Spice, I’m talking about your spice rack! Add some variety by picking up a spice rack that has a bunch of variety. When I cook my chicken or fish on the grill I always use different spices to mix up my palate.
Tip: Other than salt and pepper or lemon and lime, a good spice rack can do wonders!
