Recently I have been trying Paleo and Gluten Free Recipes and I have discovered one common denominator: The are the same thing (almost)!
The last time I went to the doctor he was talking about going Gluten free and how great it is to relieve joint pain. His main argument came from wheat and that the way bread and grains are processed, which leads to joint inflammation. That can be alleviated easily by adopting a gluten free diet.
This was not the first time I had heard that, but I will say that when Dr. Oz says it, I am immediately skeptical.
But, it was my doctor so I was going to listen a bit. He had been Gluten Free for ten years and doesn’t have any problems and feels great when it comes to his joints. On the surface that sounds great, but I have learned to get the whole story before I make any assumptions.
I mean, gluten free sounds great for you joints, but to me it sounds like you are cutting off your ‘live free’ button.
My Gluten Free Experience
Personally, I am not the type to cut out anything from my diet. I am a live in moderation including moderation kind of guy. But, I was willing to give it a shot!
So I did my research and found that gluten was the protein in wheat that gave all the bad reactions to joints. But for me, instead of analyzing what is gluten free and what is not, I just gave up wheat! A simpler solution right? It actually is the best solution, and by doing that I was essentially going on the Paleo Diet.
If you consider Gluten Free, you have to consider a few things:
- To be Gluten Free, products have to follow a guideline to have that label
- If you produce a product that has gluten, what process does it take to remove the gluten?
- Does removing gluten add more chemicals to the process?
When I did my research (which was minimal) I found that Gluten Free Beers added a chemical to remove the gluten. From the original point of decreasing processing, to me that sounds like you are adding more process to stay gluten free.
So in that sense, it became easier to me just to remove products like wheat and processed breads and pastas from my diet. Personally, I don’t count calories and the gluten free diet seems so much more complicated than calorie counting.
Paleo And Gluten Free Recipes
For me, the choice to go Gluten Free was the choice to go on the Paleo Diet! Instead of eating things with wheat, I chose to eat things made with rice or corn. However, Wheat seems to be a staple of the american diet and a go to food when you don’t want to cook and need food now!
That is why finding Paleo and Gluten Free recipes is soo important. Now that I was committed and here is what I found:
