NASM Personal Trainer Certification Review – Why it’s no. 2!
If you haven’t heard, the fitness industry is exploding! More and more people every year are joining gyms and local fitness studios to get in shape, lose belly fat, or just feel better.
And with that, the personal training business is booming as well!
Why? Because people hate to exercise and realize that they need someone to push them into a healthier lifestyle.
And that is a perfect combination for you!
Right now the Fitness and Personal Training industry is in the perfect storm for building a rewarding and lucrative career! And now that you are ready to jump in with both feet, you wonder which direction to go when it comes to getting your Personal Trainer Certificate.
To find out which one is right for you, asking trainers you know or doing online research is a great way to go. When I decided on my Fitness Certification I did a little of both. You don’t want to put all you eggs in one trainer’s opinion basket and go down the wrong path.
My top 2 Personal Trainer Certifications are:
1 ACE Fitness – American Council on Exercise
2 NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine
Here I will break down my NASM Personal Trainer Certification Review and you will know why NASM is my 2nd best Personal Training Certificate Program.
NASM Personal Trainer Certificate Review: My 2nd Choice
NASM is by far one of the leaders in the Personal Trainer Education and Certifications. When you walk into a gym with a NASM Certification it almost guarantees that you will get hired. When you complete the program, you will have the skills and training you need to be a qualified Personal Trainer.
NASM gives you the general knowledge of what you need to train the average population. And that is exactly what you need with a Personal Training Certification. It is not a specialty program, but is a great pre-requisite to any specialty certification like Strength and Condition or Senior Fitness. So in that sense, it prepares you to start your fitness career.
NASM is not the least expensive of the personal training certifications and I feel they nickel and dime you for what you get. The typical Personal Trainer Certificate Program will cost around $600. With NASM, that will only get you the NASM Personal Trainer Exam. No study guides, practice tests, or additional help.
For the base price of the ACE Personal Trainer Certification, you get the Exam, study guides, videos, and more! That is why NASM falls behind in Value.
NASM Starts at $599 for the exam only and you can upgrade all the way up to $1999. To be honest, you can get it all done for under $800
The NASM Personal Trainer exam is one of the hardest in the industry. The exam pass rate is low and in order to increase your chances on the first time, you have to buy more study guides to help you in the process.
As challenging as this certification may be to get, it also give you that much more of a chance when getting hired.
NASM Personal Trainer Certificate Review Overall Score
The NASM Program is a great program and you will not have a problem landing a job as a Personal Trainer or Fitness Coach.
However, for the money you spend:
- Getting certified
- Buying Practices Exam Upgrades
- Buying Study Guides
A Great Personal Training Certification Program for education and certification.
The exam is straight up hard and you will spend more money buying practice tests and exam re-takes.
I know a seasoned trainer that is ACE Certified and ACSM Certified that didn’t pass the NASM test after months of preparation!
Getting Certified as a Personal Trainer is the key to a successful career, however work experience will sharpen you sword more than by the book training. Getting hired is the first step and getting the right Personal Trainer Certification is the key to getting that first interview.
