Learn these important tips on how to start a personal training blog to maximize your success!
Last year I was out meeting with an old friend and we were discussing sales and marketing. And somehow it came up that I should start a blog.
And I thought, Why?
What will a blog do for me?
She told me she had a blog years ago for a credit card processing company she worked for and to this day still gets calls because of an old blog she had about processing. Wow, you don’t even keep up on the blog or work in that business and you still get calls?
What if you we still in the game, would your phone be blowing up? Needless to say I was interested on how it worked and how it could possibly help my personal training business.
What a Personal Training Blog can do for you…
One of the biggest challenges we have in the fitness business or marketing arena is building trust. Our goal is to get people to know, like, and trust us so they will buy our product or participate in our program.
And that is exactly what a blog will do for you. You can speak your mind, show incite on how to help people solve their problems (like back pain, or shoulder injuries), and be that person to offer advice.
Planning your Blog Road Map
When I started my blog, I did a ton of research! I wanted to know the how to’s and who could help me. I developed my fitness blog niche and started right away.
It actually doesn’t take long to set up a blog, buy you do need a few tools to help you along the way!
The first step in planning you road map is to pick a Niche! And that can be very simple and sounds like a conversation. Think about a conversation you have had with someone explaining what you do. Personally, I am a fitness coach that helps people lose weight and get in shape. I specialize in weight loss over 40 and helping those people overcome personal hurdles to get in shape.
That sounds simple right? Well, that is my overall Niche.
Other examples would be:
- Training Athletes
- Nutrition Advice
- Fitness for Moms
Whatever your specialty, keep in mind it will grow and you can be successful!
What to expect with your Personal Training Blog
First of all, success does not happen overnight! Let me repeat…Success does not happen over night! A blog is very much like building a business or building. Have you ever seen a building or bridge project that you drive by everyday? And over the course of a year you are like, man are they ever going to finish that?
Well , that is what a blog is like. It starts off slow, and soon develops into something you will be proud of! When I started my online business, I didn’t see any results for a year and then, BOOM …just like that I started getting calls.
Expanding your Mind
When my blog began I thought I was doing it to get more personal training clients. And as much as that is true, it also turned into an additional revenue source. How did I do that you ask?
It is simple!
Here is how I work my blog:
- I try to spend an hour a day writing. And no I’m Edgar Allen Poe, I just speak from my mind. Yes it is hard in the beginning, but now it is the part of my job I love!
- I use an organic search tool that helps my topics get ranked
- I added Ads to my blog that pay me for clicks
That’s it! Once you get that down, you can eventually have an additional stream of income to your personal training business that may even pay your bills.
There is even more to it than that, but that is the simple way of doing things.
It took me a good six months before I really figured out how to monetize my blog, and be a great resource for my clients at the same time.
