How to set up a personal training business and take more money to the bank!
When it comes to starting a fitness business, many trainers start with the old traditional way that doesn’t work for independent trainers. They start by selling packages of 10 or 20 sessions like the big gym they came from, which is the old and outdated way of doing things.
And why is that the bad way to do it?
Because, it is based on an idea of buying time instead of buying results!
How to set up a personal training business for success is as important as the time and training you put in to becoming a great trainer. In the beginning, you want to establish some great habits that will lead to future profits.
How to set up a personal training business: Setting Goals
When you have your first consultation with a potential client, you discuss goals and where they want to be in 6 months or a year. We do this because we want our clients to know that to get where they want to be, it will take hard work and dedication.
Now you’ve got them! They are in and you have them committed to working with you for a year to shave off all those pesky pounds and get in shape.
Done! And then you make a big blunder. You sell them a training package that ends in month.
What happened to that commitment?!
Stop doing that!
Stop thinking about a per session rate and start thinking about a monthly rate.
Besides, do you pay your electric bill by the day? No, you put it into your budget for the monthly rate. Start doing that with your clients.
When you set their goals, add a training program that fits their budgets and their need.
Something like this:
In order for you to hit your weight loss goals, I recommend that we work together 2x a week and that you work on your cardio on your own 2-3 times per week.
For that program, I have a 50 minute training program for $520 a month or a 30 minute program for $320 per month. Which one works best for you?
And if you want to save some extra money, I will knock $20 off each month when we get your set up on automatic payments.
It really is that easy! I recommend using this program to manage your auto payments and client calendar.
How to set up a personal training business: Executing Results
Now that you have your clients set up to pay you every month automatically, you don’t have to worry about keeping track of sessions for your per session training.
All you need to work on now is executing their weight loss and fitness goals. Once they buy into your weight loss system, you don’t have to continue to sell your system every time they need to buy a new package.
And for a bonus, you have created a consistent income for yourself which puts less stress on your business.
With this results program they are committed to their goals and committed to you! So track their results. Use a measurement tracking sheet and simple PT test to track their progress.
If they are the type of client that just wants to feel better, find a way to show them an increase in their strength. Eventually they will realize they want to see some kind of results for paying you.
How to set up a personal training business for Success
By moving away from a per session way of selling your services and moving toward a results driven business, your sales will continue to grow and you will get more referrals.
Once I added this program to my business, I increased my income by over 30% and had extra time because I wasn’t worried about tracking sessions.
