How to reduce acid reflux naturally is possible and it may be much simpler than you think!
A few years ago, before I understood health and fitness, I had major acid reflux.
So what did I do to conquer this age old problem….I went to the Doctor. And that is typically what most people do, we go to the Doctor if we have a problem. However, doctors of today are so different that doctors of yesterday. Not that I remember old school doctors doing house calls and coming to see you, but I did see it once on Leave it to Beaver.
But now it seems that you don’t just go see the Doctor, but its like you are going to a pharma test center.
Have you ever been to a sporting event? Here in the Mile High city, it used to be that you would go see the Denver Broncos play at Mile High. But now it is Sports Authority Field @ Mile High, or go see a Denver Nuggets game at the Pepsi Center.
And that is totally how I feel when I go to the Doctor. No longer is going to see Dr. Smith! Now I go see Dr. Smith @ Astra-Zenica or Dr. Jones @ Nexium Labs.
Yeah that may sound like a stretch, but it really isn’t!
So back when I had my major acid reflux, I went (reluctantly) to the Doctor. He examined me and said here is your Nexium prescription to help with that acid reflux. Nexium, really? What is the cause of my acid reflux?
I don’t know, said the Board Certified Doctor sponsored by Nexium! So, you don’t know, but you know enough to give me a prescription? Well, in that case, my knee hurts, how ’bout some Vicodin??!!!
Sounds like a bunch of bull to me! Since I became a fitness pro I am more interested in treating the problem and not solving the issue with a band-aid. Now I seek to find the truth in natural remedies.
How to Reduce Acid Reflux Naturally
According to Google, Acid Reflux by definition is a condition in which acidic gastric fluid is regurgitated into the esophagus, causing heartburn. It sucks and can ruin your day! And if it is bad enough it can irritate your esophagus or throat to the point where you seek help.
After I left the Dr. Jones by Nexium’s office I immediately received a call from the pharmacy to fill that script. I thought, WOW, they really want you to get on the meds fast!!
No thanks, I will learn how to reduce acid reflux naturally!
The PH of Food
Have you ever watched those Tums commercials and it shows people eating BBQ and other highly acidic food? And then it says take Tums!! How about, don’t eat so much of that crap. I love BBQ as much as the next guy, but I don’t eat it every meal.
Then I learned how to reduce acid reflux naturally and examined my diet.
I was consuming a lot of:
- Tomato Sauce
Pretty much if it was acidic, I was eating it!
And then I found this awesome chart:
Here is how it breaks down…
If your diet is mainly processed food like:
Then your likely hood of Acid Reflux will be high. If you start to add some of the alkaline based food, like veggies, fruit, water, etc. then your Acid Reflux will float more toward a PH balance.
So…fruits and veggies will help reduce acid reflux? Next thing you’re going to do is tell me to exercise right?!
Think of your body like a swimming pool. You are trying to get a good pH balance in order to limit your suffering from Acid Reflux or Heartburn.
Once I started taking this chart into account when I was making food choices, I started to see great imporvements. Before this, I had major heartburn for years and then like a lightswitch, I suddenly had no burning sensation assiciated with acid reflux.
All cured the natural way! I guess big pharma won’t be getting a stock bump from me.
So the next time you go to Dr. Smith by Johnson & Johnson think about how to reduce acid reflux naturally or cure your ailment without the help of big pharmas band-aids!
