Want the best early morning workout routines for the snooze button addict?
For a non-morning person, I have been getting up pretty early these days. And recently, my client schedule has filled up in what many consider the zombie time of day.
- When your body is the only part about you that is awake
- Grunts, Groans, and Confusion is a possible answer to anything
- You experience bouts of ‘where am I’ once you brain finally wakes up
These are not uncommon occurrences for those of us who are non-morning people living in a morning world. It’s kind of like where the Zombie meets Dracula…. You are barely awake, then run into that guy who seems to be up all night long!
A few months back I decided to change up my personal training schedule and offer early morning sessions instead of mid-morning or lunchtime sessions. And the biggest reason for this new flexibility was because of traffic. If I go to the gym at 8 am, I might as well go at 7 am since basically I have to leave at the same time.
So the dilemma became, would people be interested in early morning workouts? I was amazed by the response and the results! Nearly all my clients moved to an early morning schedule and now prefer the best early morning workout routine.
Why Workout In The Morning?
I really do hate working out or being awake before 8 am! At least that is what I used to think. Now that I am getting up before the crack of dawn, I feel more energized and get twice as much done! When I add a workout to the mix I am starting the day off with some personal time. Not by checking emails or work or kids, I am starting the day fresh and getting my mind right. I am laying the foundation for a productive day by energizing the mind.
Do you ever feel that you day gets away from you and by 6 pm you have nothing left to workout or even thing about exercise? Absolutely!!! And that is why these early morning workout tips are essential.
5 Early Morning Workout Habits
1 Set Your Alarm Daily!
Get up at the same time every day and start a routine. This is the key and will lead to more productive days even if you are a non-morning dweller.
Get up at the same time everyday and exercise. If you are meeting with a Personal Trainer on a couple days a week, get up the same time on the other days and put in some other activity like running, walking or yoga.
2 Bring Your Coffee
If getting up early is hard for you and you are a coffee drinker, don’t be afraid to bring your Starbucks with you. If I am getting up early, coffee is my reward! I may be the only one on the treadmill with coffee, but at least I’m on the treadmill!
3 Pre-Prepare Your Gear
I know that when I get up early, my better half will be counting sheep for a few more hours. This is why I put my clothes and shoes out the night before. That way I have an exact plan on what to put on and how to do it without disrupting the whole house.
4 Prepare Your Workout
Whether you are going for a walk or doing a home workout program, knowing what you are doing each day is one less thing to worry about. Also, the more decisions you have to make while you are laying in bed, are more excuses you will come up with to not get your a$$ up.
5 The 10 Minute Rule
If you are struggling to get into a rhythm, try anything for 10 minutes. Some days you may be borderline sick or just not feeling it. If you get on the treadmill for 10 minutes, usually you can push though any feeling of ‘not feeling it’.
I have used this rule for years and it works like a charm. Being tired or warn out can usually be fixed with a little exercise and blood flow to the brain. If you are truly sick, then your body will tell you after that 10 minutes that this is not your day!
