Are there multiple ways to make money personal training? Absolutely, but the biggest thing you should decide is what you want to do most.
Once you get certified, most likely you will pay your dues and start working at a big box gym. And for some people that will be enough. You can make a great living as Personal Trainer, or Group Instructor for Globo Gym.
However, as you start to be in the game for a while you want to add some more tools to your tool box and bring in some additional income each month.
And this is great for personal trainers because we earn a full time living on part time hours. You can spend extra time on your own business rather than day long workouts.
6 Ways to Make Money Personal Training
Personal Training, Group Training, or Bootcamps
Whatever your niche or expertise is, usually that will be your bread and butter. Especially in the beginning since you are a master at that craft. When I started making money outside of my main niche, 90-95% of my income came from Personal Training.
But then as those businesses grew, I didn’t need to rely or spend so much time on my first revenue stream. Keep in mind, know what pays the bills first, then expand your reach beyond that.
Online Personal Training
This is a great niche to generate some extra income, help people, and minimize your energy effort in the gym. You grow this market segment online through your blog and write training and nutrition guides for people who are looking for that service.
This is a fantastic way generate additional income, get your name out there, and promote your business. A blog can help you generate passive income when you use the right tools, and speak your mind. You can do a fitness blog to promote your business, or even a celebrity gossip blog. Either way, if you stick to it, you can generate great income when you get enough readers.
If you are a one-on-one trainer or group trainer, do just that for your fee. I have always offered nutritional advice for my clients, but if they want a sit down and do it for me nutrition guide, that is an up-charge!
You can sell additional services to your clients like, “built for you nutrition programs” or monthly seminars for an additional fee or referral.
Have you ever been to a chamber of commerce meeting or leads group meeting? They are always looking for speakers! If you have the time available you can develop some talking points and be that person they want. In the beginning it may be a little Pro Bono work, but if you get good at it and get recommended it can work its way into additional income.
Start a Neighborhood Fit Camp
Have you seen the moms that need to get in shape? Usually they all know each other and go on their stroller walks in the neighborhood together. Find them and train them together with their kiddos. 10 people 2-3 times a week by the jungle gym? You won’t even have to rent space!!
Although these are just a few ways to make money personal training, it can be done! All you have to do is expand your reach and give people what they want.
Making it Work
With all of these additional income streams, how do you make it work? The key here is to set goals. If you are only doing one thing right now it is your only source of income. Do you want to be doing that in 5 years? Or would you like to be training live 50% of the time, doing speaking engagements 25% of the time, and cashing checks from your blog revenue the rest of the time?
Persistence trumps education every time. You don’t need to be the best and greatest trainer in the world you just need to be the hardest working.
Recently I spoke with someone about setting goals. He has been training for years doing great things with their clients and earning a great living. However, he wants to expand his knowledge on getting fit over 50 and help as many people as possible.
Now we have GOALS! Once those long term goals are set, its time to put a daily action plan together to achieve those big goals.
Narrow Your Focus
With all of these ways to make money personal training, start by setting your goals and concentrate on one or two things at a time.
You could do this by adding online training to your fitness blog that would enhance your live training in the studio. Keep laser focus and hard work on point, and your new clients will be knocking down your door.
The Fitness Business
To have a great Personal Trainer Salary you can’t just apply and get paid like most other industries. You can get your piece of the billion dollar industry, but you will have to work at it and establish your name in the community.
Use your favorite ways to make money personal training to expand your expertise, and enjoy a well rounded career!
