How to get organic traffic to your blog without spending a fortune!
When I started my blog, the biggest question I had was: ‘How will people find it?’
I was new to the game and wanted to get my online fitness business off the ground. After I set up my blog and website, I wanted people to be able to find me and I didn’t have a big budget to spend on adwords. Plus, the more I read, I found that if you had a budget at all, buying keywords was like going to Vegas.
Ugh, I didn’t have money for that and if that was the only way to go, I would be out of the game quickly.
Since then, I have learned a lot about SEO and how to get organic traffic to your blog.
What is Organic Traffic?
Organic traffic is basically how people find your blog or website through natural searches. Your goal is to find ways to speak your mind, offer your product or service, and not pay through the nose for those people to find you.
5 Tips on How To Get Organic Traffic to Your Blog
If you haven’t set up you blog, it is really easy to do and can be done it minutes. And once you have done that, use these tools when you are creating content:
In each post article or webpage you add to your blog, you will be able to use key words. In the beginning it was easy because the internet was new and not that many people were competing for those terms.
However, now days you have to get a little creative to find your searchable key words. For example, when I started my keyword search I began with GET FIT as my term. I found that there are 475 websites competing for that same term.
That is like opening a small grocery store next to Kroger, Sams Club, Costco, Safeway, and Albertsons. The likely hood of you being successful is next to nothing!
But, when I narrow my term to:
How to Get Fit Over 40, I found that it is only on 20 competing websites! Now we are talking. The key is to use long tail, and often obscure search terms to be the basis or theme of your content article.
Having awesome titles are by far the best way to get people to read your content. After all, everyone does judge a book by its cover.
3 Keyword Placement
Back in the day people used to pepper their articles with their keywords to get a good ranking. But today, you really only need a few key placements to get your article ranked.
Here is a tip for your keyword or phrase:
- Use it in the first line with a Headline
- Use it in the article a few times when it sounds natural
- Use it in the Meta Tag article description of your post
- Follow the guidelines of your SEO plugin on your blog (I prefer SEO by Yoast- Its awesome!)
4 Meta Tags
This may sound highly technical, but it is really simple.
Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page’s content; the meta tags don’t appear on the page itself, but only in the page’s code.
If you look on Google for something, you will read what that site or link is about. That is the meta tag. To keep it simple, when you are maximizing your organic search, follow your SEO plugin tools (go with SEO by Yoast, it rocks!).
Follow the instructions at the bottom of the post and you will get your Title, Keywords, and Meta Tags. If SEO and organic search sounds difficult, it really is easy when you use these simple tools. And don’t let the techie words scare you!!
5 Keyword Tool
When I started my fitness marketing journey I started with the Keyword planner. This was a great tool to get started and get a basic understanding of the inner workings of keywords and trends.
However, I started trying to rank with words, like Get Fit (as I mentioned before) and was lost and getting nowhere!
Then I found this awesome keyword tool that helps me find:
- Long tail keywords

- Get ranked organically
It is by far the best and most valuable tool I use outside of my hosting account!
These 5 Tips on How to get Organic Traffic to Your Blog are really simple. In the beginning SEO may sound hi-tech and complicated. The key take away, is that to get your rankings up it takes hard work and patience.
I used my awesome keyword tool to rank my fitness website with only a few pages. It really does work and you will be amazed by your success!
